This March, in recognition of Brain Injury Awareness Month, join a nationwide network of organizations serving those with traumatic brain injury in your community.  To help spread the word and raise awareness, Crossroads of Western Iowa is distributing green wrist-bands to those wanting to promote injury prevention, and help those who have experienced a brain injury.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), an estimated 1.7 million people sustain a traumatic brain injury (TBI) each year.  Of those individuals, 52,000 die, 275,000 are hospitalized, and 1.4 million are treated and released from an emergency department.

Sports and car accidents happen each day in our Country, and often leave the athlete or vehicle passenger with a traumatic brain injury.  Their life changes in an instant.  The goal of Crossroads of Western Iowa is to create awareness for patients, in addition to strengthening the services and advocacy for those affected by brain injury.

Crossroads of Western Iowa, which began services in Onawa, Iowa in 1975, provides residential, employment and day habilitation services for individuals with intellectual disabilities, serious mental illness and brain injury.

Crossroads has a limited supply of silicone wrist bands commemorating those who have lived and died from traumatic brain injury.  The green wrist bands are available, while supplies last, by contacting Ric Miller at ric.miller@cwiowa.org or call 712.328.1930.
