According to the Corporation for National and Community Service, about 64.5 million Americans, or 26.5 percent of the adult population, volunteer annually.  Collectively they contributed 7.9 million hours of volunteer service, equivalent to about $175 billion in offset wages.

In recent years, the estimated value of volunteer time is $22.55 per hour.  Specific to our geographic area, the value in Iowa is slightly higher than Nebraska at $20.13 in the Cornhusker State, with $20.93 in Iowa.  The National rate of $22.55 is the highest in history.

Many organizations recognize their volunteers in April, some in May and June.

While several volunteers help in various ways, both individually and in groups, Crossroads of Western Iowa has more community service opportunities with activities and events.  The development office works with volunteer groups such as First Christian Church and their annual SERVEFest and the United Way with their annual Day of Giving.

Individuals can go to the Crossroads Website, and request volunteer online at www.explorecrossroads.com  When serving the consumers, background checks are mandatory.
